Oak Barn Vets - Fit Out - Guildford, Surrey

An extensive search was carried out for the perfect property from which to run a newly formed veterinary practice. A recently converted, Grade II listed barn was identified in the area south of Guildford in Surrey. Oak Barn Vets engaged Gifford Grant to make their dream a reality, and undertake the design and specification of this unusual project.

After gaining change of use from Guildford Borough Council, a number of conditions had to be discharged and overcome. This was handled and concluded in record time, allowing the project to commence on site in a timely manner.

Although a modern practice was required, it was also necessary to embrace the look of the barn and maintain uninterrupted views of the stunning oak beams and original brickwork. As a further obstacle, we were not allowed to affix to any of these features.

As you would expect in any modern veterinary practice, there is an attractive reception with stone effect flooring and retail areas. A new operating theatre and lead lined x-ray room have been created offering state of the art facilities. The consulting room is separated from reception using a double glazed silicon jointed partition system providing high levels of sound attenuation between the areas. The cattery was formed by creating a room within a room, using green oak to match the timber in the barn, with silicon jointed glazing and a specialist cat fence to prevent escapees. A separate kennel area has also been provided on the ground floor to keep cats and dogs isolated from each other.
